Private Therapy with Dr Ayesha Turner-Distin

Trauma-informed, specialist psychological support for adults seeking meaningful change

With over a decade of clinical experience, I support adults face to face in Bury, Manchester, and online facing the aftermath of trauma and complex trauma

Are you tired of wondering if and when things will get better?

If you have found yourself here, it is likely that something doesn’t feel right, whether that is within you, or within your relationships

Does this describe what you are struggling with?

  • You feel like there is something wrong with you, like you are broken, and nobody gets it

  • You struggle with dissociation, feeling numb, anxiety, and/or panic attacks

  • Your feelings can change out of nowhere

  • You struggle to be yourself in relationships, struggle to set and keep boundaries, and prioritise other people's needs over your own

  • You feel like you are a bad person, not good enough, and not deserving... even though you rationally know that these things aren't true

Do you find yourself wondering why you are experiencing these things and cannot understand the reasons behind them?

Have you been to therapy, read self-help books, built coping strategies, worked on your self care, yet still feel like things are wrong?

You have come to the right place for things to get better

Welcome to ATD Psychology. My name is Dr Ayesha Turner-Distin and I can help. I am a Forensic Psychologist and EMDR therapist, with over 10 years of clinical experience.

I specialise in helping people who have experienced trauma, whether that is a recent trauma, many different traumas, trauma that happened years ago, and childhood trauma.

I help people to no longer carry the weight of past memories, to no longer experience symptoms of trauma such as flashbacks and nightmares, to no longer use unhelpful coping strategies such as self-harm, to feel safe in their own emotions and bodies, to no longer be held back by unhelpful patterns and beliefs, and to feel reconnected with life.

If this sounds like what you need, I am here to support you. You can book a free consultation to see if we’re a good fit.

How I can help

EMDR therapy for trauma

I offer specialist psychological support using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to help people process and heal from trauma.

EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based therapy for processing and overcoming trauma. Whether you’ve experienced a single traumatic event, complex trauma, childhood trauma, or military-related trauma, EMDR can help reduce the emotional impact of distressing memories and intrusive thoughts. Through guided sessions, you’ll work at your own pace to process past experiences, build resilience, and regain a sense of safety and control.

EMDR therapy for emotional disconnection, cultural adjustment, and identity exploration.

Living Between Cultures

Therapy for Expats, Third-Culture Adults, and Global Citizens

Living abroad or between cultures can bring disconnection, identity struggles, and a quiet sense of not quite belonging anywhere. I work with expats and third-culture individuals navigating these emotional challenges, including grief, rootlessness, cultural adjustment, and the pressure to adapt.

EMDR therapy can help process the deeper emotional impact of these experiences, especially when old moves, transitions, or beliefs like “I don’t belong” still affect you today. Together, we can explore your story and help you feel more grounded, connected, and at home within yourself.

Neuroaffirming, LGBTQ+ inclusive, and culturally sensitive therapy for adults.

Diversity & Inclusion

I’m committed to offering therapy that is inclusive, respectful, and affirming of all identities. My practice is a space where you are welcome, regardless of your background, culture, gender identity, sexuality, or neurotype.

As someone who has lived across cultures and worked with diverse communities, I understand how identity, safety, and belonging deeply shape our emotional world. I aim to meet each person with curiosity, care, and cultural humility.

This is a space where you don’t have to explain who you are in order to be understood.
